Consecration is an act of prayer to remove a person or thing from the uses of the world and to dedicate that person or thing to the service of God. A consecration is more than a blessing because it changes the use and sometimes the nature of a person or thing. Most profoundly, the bread and wine are consecrated by a priest during Mass to become the Body and Blood of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Only a bishop can consecrate a man to be a priest, but individuals may consecrate themselves or their possessions to particular spiritual service. These three consecrations are most relevant to the Apostleship of Prayer:
