Special Presenter
In addition to being part of the retreat team, Fr. Martin will end the retreat with a talk at 8pm in Old St. Joseph's Church that is also open to the general public:
"Saint Ignatius and You"
Soldier-mystic-pilgrim-founder: the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556), the founder of the Jesuits, was exciting. But what can his 16th century life say to your 21st-century one? In a lively talk, Fr. James Martin will show you how specific events in the life of St. Ignatius can help you in your daily life: understanding your unique vocation, discerning what to do in life, and even making sense of suffering. All this and some good Jesuit jokes, too.
James Martin, SJ, is a Jesuit priest, culture editor of America magazine and author of the New York Times bestseller The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything and My Life with the Saints, winner of the Christopher Award. He is a frequent commentator on religion in the national and international media, and has written for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, among other outlets. Fr. Martin has appeared in venues as diverse the BBC, Vatican Radio, the History Channel, as well as NPR's "Fresh Air," PBS's "Newshour," Fox-TV's "The O'Reilly Factor" and Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."
