Claudio Barriga, issues Spiritual Directive Jesuits Name New Superior General Pope Affirms Practice of “Offering Up” our Daily Hardships In his latest encyclical, “Spe Salvi” (“Saved in Hope”), Pope Benedict XVI affirms for today’s Christians the previously widespread practice of offering to God the minor daily hardships of our lives (paragraph 40). The Holy Father asks whether there may be in this practice something “essential and helpful” for everyday living.
