Kubicki recently attended a conference entitled "Solidarity in Christ's Mission." From June 18-22, over two hundred Jesuits and lay people from around the world gathered at Regis University in Denver, CO to reflect on Jesuit Social Ministries and God's call today. The gathering asked three questions: What is our common experience? Where do we find God present? Where is God calling us?
Fr. Kubicki's presence was a surprise to many who assume that the Apostleship of Prayer has nothing in common with ministries that care for the poor and work for social justice.
"I went with the intention of building bridges," said Fr. Kubicki. "So many people are not aware of how often the Holy Father's monthly intentions call us to be more socially aware, to be concerned for the needs of poor people around the world."
"What's also important is for people engaged in social ministries to know that they need to be close to the Heart of Jesus," he added. "The motivation to work for social justice has to come from prayer, from sharing the thoughts and feelings of Jesus' own Heart, which is wounded by sin and injustice and deeply desires the salvation of all people."
The event was sponsored by the Jesuit Commission for Social and International.
